A snap shot of our life in Beijing

Our activities

The Book Information Centre has a dual mission, combining economic interests with a cultural and political vocation. All this with the aim of increasing the mutual transparency of the book industry in both countries and thus strengthening German-Chinese cooperation. With the ultimate goal of benefiting all Chinese and German publishers, authors and translators.

Presentation of German books

Despite a growing interest from the Chinese, German books have a much harder time in the Chinese market than English titles.
This is mainly due to the lack of German language skills in China and Chinese language skills in Germany.
But despite this we believe we can help bridge the gap and provide solutions.

Presentation of German Publishers

German Book Information Centre Beijing has been working closely with Chinese partners in the region since 1998 and has established itself in the Chinese publishing world as a central contact point for those interested in German publishing houses. We offer your publishing house the opportunity to present itself in an attractive position on the Internet. You give us the essential information about your publisher, we translate it and prepare it in such a way that it appeals to the Chinese.

The public

We help you to have a media presence in the Chinese speaking region. Through our close cooperation with Chinese partners in China, we are in contact with various Chinese media, which enable us to promote German publishers, bookstores, institutions or even individual book titles.

Funding for translation

The demand of Chinese publishers for German licensed works is significant. There is a great need for professional, qualified and experienced translators. The German Book Information Centre Beijing supports the German and Chinese book industry through the brokering of translators and the networking of translators among themselves.

Fairs and exhibitions

German books presented at the joint stand of the Frankfurt Book Fair or at an Asian fair will remain in China. After which they will be exhibited by us at numerous national trade fairs, as well as at the license exchanges organised by the German Book Information Centre Beijing and other suitable occasions. And of course, will be displayed in the premises of the German Book Information Centre Beijing.

Tailor-made consulting

The German Book Information Centre Beijing is an open platform for all those interested in the industry and is not in competition with literary agents. On the contrary.
We are guided by your individual wishes and needs. We support you in match-making when you are looking for a Chinese publisher with a similar profile, agents, translators or reviewers.
