Every year, Frankfurter Buchmesse puts the spotlight on a different country as the Guest of Honour. The Guest of Honour country 2026 will be the Czech Republic, following by Chile in 2027.

The Guest of Honour programme always offers exciting new input – with new literary discoveries, along with a diverse programme of art, music, film, theatre, performances and themes that offer new insights into the cultural and social life of each country.

Guest of Honour 2026, Czech Republic

The Czech Republic will present itself as Guest of Honour at the 78th book fair (7–11 October 2026). The motto for the country’s presence at the fair is ‘Czechia – A Country on the Coast’. It’s a maritime description of a landlocked Central European country. The cultural and literary perspectives of a country located in the heart of Central Europe will be one focus of the Guest of Honour presence. Look forward to a Guest of Honour programme featuring contemporary literature represented by authors such as Radka Denemarková, Jáchym Topol and Kateřina Tučková.

Guest of Honour 2027, Chile

Chile will be the fourth Latin American country to showcase its literature and culture as the Guest of Honour of the 79th book fair (6-10 October 2027). The presentation is being announced by „Through the clear skies of literature“. It hints at the breathtaking, wide and clear star-strewn sky, which can be seen over many regions in Chile. In addition to the works of renowned writers such as Pablo Neruda, Isabel Allende and Roberto Bolaño, new literary voices also take centre stage. Disvcover the Chile’s vivid and young publishing scene as well as Chilean book illustrations, which have been internationally recognised with numerous awards.
