Dirk Steffens
Dirk Steffens, born 1967 in Stade, Lower Saxony, is a science journalist and presenter of the documentary series Terra X. Probably Germany's best-known species conservationist is UN ambassador for the Decade of Biodiversity. As national ambassador, he also represents the WWF and the Jane Goodall Institute. For more than a quarter of a century, he has undertaken expeditions to all regions of the world to report on the Earth's natural systems. He is also co-founder of the Biodiversity Foundation, which has launched a petition to have species protection included in the German constitution. For his services, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bayreuth.
