Roland Schimmelpfenning ist one of the most played contemporary playwrights in Germany. His pieces have been performed in more than 40 countries. Schimmelpfening was born in Göttingen and worked as a journalist in Istanbul after the secondary school. In 1990 he started his studies as theatre director at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich. After completing the degree he was assistant director and worked later at the artistical direction of the Munich Theatre Company. Additionally he works at the Berliner Schaubühne, the Wiener Burgtheater and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.
