Betelhem Dessie, Gina Belafonte, Tea Uglow and many more are taking to the stage at Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2019) on Wednesday, 16 October 2019, 5.30 pm at THE ARTS+ Salon and Space, Hall 4.1 R 71 , as part of CREATE YOUR REVOLUTION – INITIATIVE FOR THE FUTURE OF CULTURE. This year’s global campaign by Frankfurter Buchmesse, THE ARTS+/B3, Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers & Booksellers Association), Spreadshop, ARTE and the United Nations will showcase these great minds, who will share their inspirational ideas on topics such as activism, language, living with machines, trust, identity, sustainability, and education.
In the face of globalization, digitization, climate change, and the rise of extremist and nationalist movements, the global society is facing challenges that can only be solved in a joint effort. “We need people who make a positive difference. It’s them, who we give voice in Frankfurt”, explains Juergen Boos, director of Frankfurter Buchmesse and opening speaker at this event. As one of the world’s most important cultural platforms, Frankfurter Buchmesse is giving its stage to the people driving and supporting change.
“CREATE YOUR REVOLUTION-Talks is an event that gives the stage to a kaleidoscope of global change makers whose powerful ideas are shaping a bright and hopeful future”, explains Katja Böhne, Head of Marketing and Communications at Frankfurter Buchmesse. Betelhem Dessie, Gina Belafonte and Tea Uglow are some of the first speakers to be announced, with more names to follow.
Betelhem Dessie is one of Ethiopia’s leading youth technology education entrepreneur, who is currently working on a project aimed at equipping young people with the necessary skills to innovate and create their own start-ups in the developing world.
Gina Belafonte, Executive Director of Sankofa.org – a social justice organisation, educates, motivates, and activates artists and allies in service of grassroots movements and equitable change.
TL Uglow ('Tea'), as Creative Director for Google's Creative Lab in Sydney, works with cultural and creative organisations around the world exploring the space between technology and the arts and what can happen where they intersect.
The encounters on stage will be guided by passionate discussion about revolutionary ideas. Politics, science, business, art and society come together to exchange thoughts: It is about taking a critical look at the challenges of our time and the commitment of activists. And most of all, they are going to celebrate one of the core topics of democracy: culture and freedom of expression.
The event for guests from the cultural and creative industries, politicians, journalists, activists as well as all those who are interested in society/politics/culture/future will take place on Wednesday, 16 October 2019, 5.30 to 8 pm at THE ARTS+ Salon and Space, Hall 4.1 R 71 . Please register at www.cyr.world(opens in a new window).(opens in a new window) The admission is free, but since the CYR Talks will take place during and on the premises of Frankfurter Buchmesse, the purchase of an FBM / THE ARTS+ ticket is required in any case
CREATE YOUR REVOLUTION-Talks is one of the highlights of the campaign, which has been initiated to celebrate the power of culture as an enabler and driver of innovation and growth to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The aim of CREATE YOUR REVOLUTION – INITIATIVE FOR THE FUTURE OF CULTURE is to stimulate an intense and substantial debate on an international level: What will tomorrow's world look like?
