Participation in a two-day programme (18–19 May 2020) at the Cannes Film Festival / Application deadline 14 February 2020

The 73rd Cannes International Film Festival will take place from 12 to 23 May 2020. On 18 and 19 May 2020 Frankfurter Buchmesse is organising a Publishers’ Tour with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office. The tour is intended to offer select publishers and literary agencies from German-speaking countries as well as the Guest of Honour of Frankfurter Buchmesse 2019, Norway, and future Guests of Honour Canada, Spain, Slovenia and Italy a chance to present themselves at the film festival.

The Festival de Cannes is one of the most important international film festivals, with a focus on fictional material. Every year, the "Marché du Film" gives producers, investors, publishers and film agencies an opportunity to network. In 2019, in its 60th year, the Marché du Film marked a record year, with 12,527 participants from 121 countries. "Novels and films belong closely together – a good story is most important for both narrative forms. We are connecting those two worlds for many years now. With our Publishers’ Tour Cannes, we provide participants with access to this prestigious film festival on the Croisette in order to promote dialogue between the publishing industry and the international film business and to give their material visibility", explains Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse.

The two-day Publishers’ Tour Cannes 2020 offers participating agencies and publishers accreditation for the Festival de Cannes and Marché du Film, access to exclusive networking events with film producers and the chance to participate in the “Shoot the Book!” programme.

Shoot the Book! – organised by SCELF (Société Civile des Editeurs de Langue Française) and the Institut Français – is a special opportunity to present select books with high screen-adaptation potential to an audience of international film producers. Frankfurter Buchmesse has been involved in the event since 2017. Publishers participating in the Publishers’ Tour can submit two current titles suited for adaptation to the screen in advance. The submitted titles must exist in English, French or Spanish and the film rights must be available and held by the publisher or agency.

"After the very successful expansion of the 'Shoot the Book!' pitching around the 'Shoot the Book! Rendez-Vous' matchmaking event, we are delighted to once again have Frankfurter Buchmesse with its global network on board as a partner and to intensify German-French cooperation", says  Nathalie Piaskowski – General Director of SCELF – Société Civile des Editeurs de Langue Française.

Publishers and literary agencies from German-speaking countries, future Guests of Honour of Frankfurter Buchmesse and the Frankfurter Buchmesse Guest of Honour 2019, Norway, are all eligible to apply.
