TikTok puts #BookTok community in the spotlight with stage programme / Talks, workshops and performances with creators, authors and publishers / Livestreams and Creation Corner will bring the community digitally to #fbm22

Anyone who wants to discover new books or genres or is seeking literary recommendations will find a wide range of content on TikTok. The #BookTok community has been growing constantly for years and inspires millions of users worldwide. To celebrate the community and its joy of reading and writing, TikTok has become one of Frankfurter Buchmesse’s partners for the first time this year (19–23 October 2022). TikTok will be making use its own stage in the Agora and a specially curated German-language programme to give visitors a live experience of #BookTok culture.

As a partner, TikTok is helping the book fair reach a diverse audience. From 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sunday, 23 October 2022, TikTok will host a stage in the centrally located Agora, where it will present talks, workshops and performances that bring together some of the most popular creators, authors and publishers in the #BookTok community. Guests will include julesboringlife, flying_bengel, avalino.diversity, charlotteschueler, tabeajoanna and Brix Schaumburg, among others.

In the #BookTok Creation Corner, #BookTok creators will also be invited to record their own videos and stream live from the fair, thereby sharing their impressions with the community and interacting with book lovers.

“The book fair stands for respect, diversity and tolerance. It thrives on the heterogeneity of its participants and on an exchange among equals within an open dialogue. We are therefore all the more pleased to be working together with TikTok this year, thereby sharing our multifaceted programme with an even larger global community,” says Lars Birken-Bertsch, director of Strategic Project Development, Cooperation and Programmes at Frankfurter Buchmesse.

“The #BookTok phenomenon has captured the hearts of our community members. Creators, authors and reading fans come together on TikTok every day to share their passion for books. With more than 73 billion views worldwide, #BookTok has given new life to classic titles and helped bring new authors and books to an audience of millions. As a result, we are especially excited to be giving the #BookTok community a stage not only on TikTok, but also at the world’s largest book fair,” says Tobias Henning, general manager of TikTok Germany & Central Eastern Europe.

Many publishers and booksellers have already recognised the extraordinary global reach of the #BookTok hashtag and the far-reaching cultural influence that has resulted even beyond the platform itself. Yet local hashtags such as #GermanBookTok have also succeeded in generating more than 38 million views, and #BookTokGermany has had even more, with over 275 million views. Popular hashtags such as #Manga, #Fantasy, #Romance and #Crime, which are used for the most popular literary genres, demonstrate how diverse the community has already become.

The stage programme will be streamed live on TikTok on 23 October for all the TikTok users who cannot make it to this year’s book fair in person.
