With Nicola Lagioia, Francesca Melandri, Carlo Rovelli, Igiaba Scego and many more / Guest of Honour pavilion as an Italian piazza

Italy is the Guest of Honour at this year's Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2024). The literary and cultural programme and the design of the Guest of Honour pavilion were presented at a press conference in Frankfurt am Main today. Speakers included Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse, Armando Varricchio, Italian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Mauro Mazza, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Italian Government for the Guest of Honour appearance and Innocenzo Cipolletta, President of the Italian Publishers Association AIE. Stefano Boeri, architect and urban planner, presented the design of the Guest of Honour pavilion, which resembles an Italian piazza and is intended to create a place for encounters and exchange at the trade fair. Juergen Boos spoke with Italian authors Ginevra Lamberti and Anna Giurickovic Dato about the Italian literary landscape, among other things.

Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse, said: "With the Guest of Honour programme, Frankfurter Buchmesse puts the literature and culture of a country centre stage. The Guest of Honour agreement with Italy was signed in 2018 and preparations have been in full swing ever since. More than 150 new publications from Italian have already been published in German as part of the Guest of Honour programme - and the list continues to grow!" He added: "Many publishers take the Guest of Honour appearance as an opportunity to invite authors from their programme to Frankfurt. The trade fair audience can therefore look forward to a diverse and numerous young literary voices from Italy. Authors such as Claudia Durastanti, Igiaba Scego and Vincenzo Latronico, whom we recently met at the Turin Book Fair, as well as Ginevra Lamberti and Anna Giurickovic Dato, whom we welcomed at the press conference, and many more will inspire us in Frankfurt. We are already presenting our first reading tips in Pride Month June."
