Der Pass mein Zuhause by Andrei S. Markovits: Book Presentation.
Andrei S. Markovits, social scientist and professor of politics and other subjects at the University of Michigan, presents the German translation of his autobiography Der Pass mein Zuhause, in which he reflects on the rootlessness of his double emigration in the context of European-American relations after 1945. Having moved from Eastern to Central Europe, and then to the USA where he ended up in Harvard and Michigan, the Jewish intellectual was always interested in public debates conducted in Germany, especially on Jewish identity after the Shoah. Der Pass mein Zuhause ultimately announces an exemplary transnational endeavour, in which Markovit’s lack of a single home country in particular provides comfort and inspiration.
