Media and Civil Society in Times of War
The social resilience in Ukraine and the impressive solidarity during the war are based on a functioning civil society. Civil society structures emerged as early as after independence in 1991 and further consolidated during the Orange Revolution and Euromaidan. It is noticeable that many NGOs in Ukraine are led by women, which is also true for independent media. Sevgil Musyayeva, editor-in-chief of the online newspaper Ukrajinska Pravda, and Oleksandra Matviichuk, head of the CCL - Сenter for Civil Liberties (Nobel Peace Prize 2022), talk about challenges for the media and NGOs and their work in the war.
