Niño de Elche
Francisco Contreras aka Niño de Elche is considered one of the most important voices in contemporary Spanish art. Starting from flamenco, the classically trained singer and guitarist mixes different musical traditions such as concrete music, serialism, ambient, Spanish folklore, punk, minimalism and "expanded voice" techniques to create anti-militaristic, anarchic and queer collages. His latest album "La distancia entre el barro y la electrónica, 7 diferencias valdeomarianas" (roughly "The distance between the mud and electronics, 7 valdeomarian differences) is dedicated to the great avant-garde artist José Val del Omar (1904-1982). These and numerous other references to multi-layered cultural traditions, combined with Contreras' stage presence, humor and unique voice, make the concert an extraordinary total work of art.
