The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the German Publishers & Booksellers Association are pleased to invite you to the Raif Badawi Talk.

The panel discussion will focus on the impact of digitalization when wielded by autocratic regimes against journalists through surveillance and the public by mudding the waters with disinformation. Digitalization has made many services affordable and available that were once exclusive and expensive. The increased flow of information was seen as a huge opportunity to make the world a better place. Unfortunately, oppressive regimes have learnt to use digitalization for their own purposes. Disinformation and propaganda are flooding across all media and surveillance tools like "Pegasus" are being used against journalists. How do journalists cope with this new threat and how can journalism help the public to become more resilient against disinformation and other means of control?

The Raif Badawi Talk is a panel discussion with courageous journalist and part of the Foundation’s commitment to support independent and impartial journalism and freedom of expression worldwide. It is named after the famous Saudi journalist and blogger who spent ten year in prison. We are honored to host Ensaf Haidar, wife of Raif Badawi, during this year’s Raif Badawi Talk. Please join us for the discussions and listen to the invaluable insights of the journalists and human rights defenders at the Book Fair on Saturday 19 October at 3. p.m. in "Studio Frankfurt" (Hall 4.0).
