Nora Bossong and Francesca Melandri discuss Italian and German history, old and new colonialism, the intertwining between class discrimination, racism and sexism and how the youngest generations are going to deal with such a legacy. For a few decades, colonial history has been a blind spot in Italian and German culture of remembrance. Now, thanks also to some recent novels, public awareness is on the rise, fostering a more intense debate on how to look at the remembrance of colonial history as an opportunity towards a shared history and a diverse Europe with common values and open borders.
