Talk about German translations of Asian literatures
Speakers:
- Katharina Borchardt (Independent journalist and literary editor)
- Annette Hug (Translator)

Japanese is the second most frequently translated language into German in 2021. Mangas in particular are export hits, but authors such as Sayaka Murata and Mieko Kawakami are also causing a stir internationally in the field of fiction. In contrast, virtually no literature from the Philippines reaches the German market, although a lot is written and published in English there. Why is that? And what about the other 170 languages of the archipelago, for example the important Tagalog? Annette Hug, author and translator, and Jürgen Stalph, translator and publisher, will provide information.
