Cornelia Funke

Author

Cornelia Funke is the most internationally successful and best-known German children's book author. She now lives in Volterra, Italy, but her career as an author and illustrator began in Hamburg. After training as a qualified teacher and then studying graphic design, she worked as a freelance children's book illustrator. As she didn't always like the stories she illustrated, she started writing them herself. Her great successes include the ‘Drachenreiter’ novels, the ‘Die Wilden Hühner’ series and ‘Herr der Diebe’, with which Cornelia Funke also made a name for herself internationally. Cornelia Funke conquered the bestseller lists worldwide with her Tintenwelt trilogy and the Spiegelwelt series. Cornelia Funke has now written over 60 books, which have been published in more than 50 languages. Numerous titles such as ‘Hände weg von Mississippi’, ‘Herr der Diebe, ‘Die wilden Hühner’ and ‘Tintenherz’ have been made into films. Her popularity and influence are also reflected in prizes and numerous awards.
