Helena Janeczek grew up in Munich as the child of a Jewish-Polish family. She moved to Italy in 1983 and has been writing in Italian ever since. Her literary breakthrough came in 1997 with "Lezioni di tenebra", and she was awarded the Premio Strega for "La ragazza con la Leica". Helena Janeczek lives in Gallarate.
