Niamh O'Connor

Niamh is Chief Publishing Officer at PLOS where she leads the Publishing & Partnerships Team. Her focus is ensuring the PLOS portfolio has a strong value proposition that includes the broadest range of researcher voices globally, and facilitates the co-creation of paths to Open Science that are intentional in addressing power imbalances and the legacy of devaluing knowledge from particular groups or regions. This includes developing new business models to enable more equitable and regionally appropriate ways to support Open Access and Open Science. Prior to PLOS, she was the Director of Publishing at the Biochemical Society/Portland Press, leading strategy development and developing collaborative relationships with the molecular bioscience community broaden engagement and support a transition to an Open Science culture. She spent nine years at the Royal Society of Chemistry in a variety of publishing roles including Publisher and Editor, where she co-created and implemented journal strategies with Editorial Boards to meet the needs of the evolving global scientific community. She holds a PhD in chemistry from the National University of Ireland (UCC).
