Frankfurt Calling - the cultural-political programme of FBM24
Thought-provoking authors in the Frankfurt Pavilion and on other stages
For over 75 years, major social debates have been reflected at Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2024). Thought-provoking authors analyse the pressing issues of the day in their novels and non-fiction books. At readings and panels, they face the public in democratic discourse.
FBM24 is now presenting its cultural-political programme together with its partners under the title “Frankfurt Calling – Perspectives on Culture and Politics.” It will take place throughout the entire week of the fair in the iconic Frankfurt Pavilion on the Agora, and on other stages.
This year's Frankfurt Calling programme includes the international bestselling and critically-acclaimed authors Roberto Saviano, Anne Applebaum, Atef Abu Saif and Yuval Noah Harari.
Partners in the Frankfurt Calling programme are the United Nations (UN), Amnesty International, the human rights organization Memorial, the International Publishers Association (IPA) and many more.
Some of the topics of the panels, readings and performances are: the war of Russia against Ukraine, the Middle East conflict and its reception, Black Feminism, AI and language, as well as the global rise of populism.
“Frankfurter Buchmesse has always opened up a literary discourse space for the whole world. With Frankfurt Calling, we are now organising a cultural-political programme together with cultural institutions, investigative media and diverse literary voices. In this way, we are taking up and continuing the debates of our turbulent present”, says Torsten Casimir, spokesperson for Frankfurter Buchmesse.
Frankfurt Calling is a cultural-political programme organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse and its partners.
