Erwin Köstler

Erwin Köstler was born in 1964 and works as a translator and independent literary researcher. He lives in Vienna and translates all literary genres, both "classical" (including Vladimir Bartol, Ivan Cankar, Slavko Grum, Srečko Kosovel, Prežihov Voranc, Vitomil Zupan) and contemporary Slovenian literature (including Franjo Frančič, Zoran Hočevar, Mojca Kumerdej, Sebastijan Pregelj, Andrej Skubic, Breda Smolnikar), the literature of the Carinthian Slovenians (Jože Blajs, Milka Hartman, Lipej Kolenik), as well as graphic novels (by Zoran Smiljanić, Marijan Pušavec, Jakob Klemenčič, Ivan Smiljanić, Blaž Vurnik). His extensive intermediary work includes lecturing and teaching, as well as journalistic and scientific work in the fields of translation and Slovenian literature. Awards: The Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation (1999), the Lavrin Diploma of the Association of Slovenian Translators (2010), the Fabjan Hafner Prize (2020).
