    Frankfurter Buchmesse opens registration for exhibitors

    Publishers can now register for the 73rd Frankfurter Buchmesse (20–24 October 2021). Dedicated to the topic “re:connect”, this year’s book fair is planned as an in-person event with additional digital formats, and can be flexibly adapted to pandemic-related developments. The focus will be on the international rights business and public events. This year’s Guest of Honour is Canada.

    Two of the ten books that were presented in to an audience of film producers at the first ever digital "Books at Berlinale" this year came from Canada, the Guest of Honour at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2021. In "The Confetti Flight Path" (La trajectoire des confettis) by Marie-Ève Thuot, generations of characters, trapped by social norms, successively test the limits of decency. We talked to her about the prospect of her book being adapted as a movie.

    "Books at Berlinale" has been shining the spotlight on new publications and bestsellers as part of the Berlinale Co-production market – in cooperation with Frankfurter Buchmesse – every year since 2006. To mark its 15th anniversary, the pitching event now took place online for the first time. Among the ten books that were selected for presentation to film producers was also the winning title of the German Book Prize 2020, "Epic Annette" by Anne Weber, represented by the Agentur Kroll. Before the event, we talked to agent Frank Kroll about his experience with the format and with literary adaptations in general.

    Yesterday it was announced that Lebanese publisher Lokman Slim was found dead in his car on a road in Southern Lebanon, murdered by multiple shots to the head, according to police.
