“The number of visitors exceeded our expectations. After two reduced versions in 2020 and 2021, the 74th Frankfurter Buchmesse was finally able to take place in person once again. In 2022, BOOKFEST will once again present a programme full of literature, inspiration and compelling encounters. The literature festival will offer more than 60 events featuring authors, poets, translators, illustrators and moderators at more than 20 different locations throughout Frankfurt. Over 20 publishing houses and 9 booksellers and cultural institutions will participate in the programme.

The BRIGITTE LIVE series of talks will put in an appearance at Frankfurter Buchmesse on 22 October, inviting guests to a conversation with Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Live at last: visitors to Frankfurter Buchmesse 2022 will experience acclaimed authors, inspiring talks and stimulating discussions live on the main stage in the Congress Center, in the Frankfurt Studio, in the Frankfurt Pavilion and, during the evening, at BOOKFEST city events throughout Frankfurt.

In 2022, more than 110 publishers, booksellers, literary agents, translators and rights and licensing managers from over 50 countries will be taking part in Frankfurter Buchmesse’s international fellowship and grant programmes.

Today at 5 p.m. (MESZ), Mr. Juergen Boos, the President and CEO of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, will be honoured with the Vigdís Prize 2022 – an international award for outstanding contributions to world languages and cultures.

At the joint invitation of Frankfurter Buchmesse (19.-23. October 2022) and the Federation of European Publishers, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the book sector on Thursday 20 October at 12.30 p.m. CET via videolink. His speech will be followed by a speech by European Commissioner for culture, Mariya Gabriel. The event is open to the public and will take place in Room Harmonie at the Congress Centre.

The Global 50 CEO Talk 2022, held in partnership with Frankfurter Buchmesse on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Frankfurt Studio (Hall 4.0, Room Europe), will explore the book business beyond traditional publishers.

Culture in a time of war – Frankfurter Buchmesse (19-23 October 2022) will put a special focus on Ukraine in 2022.

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the recipient of this year’s Julius Campe Prize, awarded by publisher HOFFMANN UND CAMPE. 
The prize is given to individuals and institutions that have rendered outstanding services in the fields of literary criticism and literary communication. The winner receives 99 bottles of fine wine and a facsimile of Heinrich Heine’s »Französische Zustände« (French Affairs), published by HOFFMANN UND CAMPE. 

With exhibitors from over 80 countries and acclaimed authors from around the world, the 74th Frankfurter Buchmesse (19–23 October 2022) will once again serve as the international book and publishing industry’s benchmark event.

Mohsin Hamid will be one of the keynote speakers at the Opening Press Conference of Frankfurter Buchmesse.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has demanded the extradition of Turkish exiles who are classified as “suspected terrorists” in their native country as part of the agreement allowing Sweden and Finland to join NATO. His list includes Ragıp Zarakolu, a Turkish publisher and human rights activist who has been in exile in Sweden since 2012. The German Publishers & Booksellers Association and Frankfurter Buchmesse condemn Erdogan’s planned exchange and call on Sweden and Finland to stand firm.

Whether performance art or the sound of flamenco, whether high culture from the Prado or fun culture in the form of tapas – Spain’s “spilling creativity” can be experienced not only at Frankfurter Buchmesse from 19 to 23 October 2022, but this summer as well in the city of Frankfurt and many other places in Germany.

Frankfurt will welcome the international publishing industry in October. The registration phase for the 74th Frankfurter Buchmesse (19–23 October 2022) is still open, and several thousand exhibitors from more than 65 countries are expected to participate.

Germany successfully concluded its appearance as Guest of Honour at the 31st Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (23-29 May 2022), which ended on Sunday.

Germany will return as Guest of Honour at this year's Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (23–29th May 2022) with a broad trade and cultural programme.

In order to support the Ukrainian book industry, Frankfurter Buchmesse, together with the Börsenverein Group and other partners, has started several support initiatives.
