#fbm22 interim report: trade visitor days a success

“The number of visitors exceeded our expectations. After two reduced versions in 2020 and 2021, the 74th Frankfurter Buchmesse was finally able to take place in person once again. With approximately 90,000 trade visitors from over 100 countries, we view the trade visitor days as a success,” says Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse.

President Zelenskyy and Commissioner Gabriel address the book world

At the joint invitation of Frankfurter Buchmesse (19.-23. October 2022) and the Federation of European Publishers, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the book sector on Thursday 20 October at 12.30 p.m. CET via videolink. His speech will be followed by a speech by European Commissioner for culture, Mariya Gabriel. The event is open to the public and will take place in Room Harmonie at the Congress Centre.

Frankfurter Buchmesse to receive 2022 Julius Campe Prize

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the recipient of this year’s Julius Campe Prize, awarded by publisher HOFFMANN UND CAMPE. 
The prize is given to individuals and institutions that have rendered outstanding services in the fields of literary criticism and literary communication. The winner receives 99 bottles of fine wine and a facsimile of Heinrich Heine’s »Französische Zustände« (French Affairs), published by HOFFMANN UND CAMPE.

German Publishers & Booksellers Association and Frankfurter Buchmesse call for protection for Turkish exiles in Sweden and Finland

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has demanded the extradition of Turkish exiles who are classified as “suspected terrorists” in their native country as part of the agreement allowing Sweden and Finland to join NATO. His list includes Ragıp Zarakolu, a Turkish publisher and human rights activist who has been in exile in Sweden since 2012. The German Publishers & Booksellers Association and Frankfurter Buchmesse condemn Erdogan’s planned exchange and call on Sweden and Finland to stand firm.
